For this week’s edition of ‘noticing’ –

Quiet the noise. Stop the zoom. Rest the juggle.
Notice. Sense. Listen.
What word comes to your mind?
Now – get into that word to seek what it is offering.
(Often the depth and significance of an experience is most tangible when looking at it from its very inside.)

Sometimes the ink on paper or typeface on a screen can cause words to lose their impact. We take for granted our ability to sound sounds and string together letters. We become accustomed to words because we see them everywhere. We detach ourselves from them because it takes effort, time, and energy to connect with what they mean. We live fast. We have boxes to check. We have errands to run. We have feelings to avoid. We have no time to spare (quite literally in our virtual world, we have 10 seconds or less to determine our passions: do we scroll on or stick around because the algorithms.never.rest.) . . . .

We are conditioned to skim the surface. We are charmed to multitask. We are coerced to hurry along to what is next. So, I invite you today to do the exact opposite of what the rat race expects of us and instead, notice and glean new insights from the insides of the words that come to you. I imagine there is much richness to be found.

  1. Great posts! Today was a perfect example of going 1000 miles a minute and multi-tasking and as a result all the time I thought I was saving, I had to go back and repeat. I was pretty proud of myself thinking I was, as they say, “killing two birds with one stone”, only to realize one of those dang birds got away and let out a whole ton more and well, my multi-tasking win became a multi-do-over, step-by-step to see what I missed and messed up. Thank goodness one event was canceled and the other one, thankfully I have a very forgiving chiropractor who understands when he says see you at 10 a.m. I thought he really meant Christine will show up at 11:30 a.m.
