Alice, walking square by square on her way to the Eighth one (and going by railway in the Fourth with a paper man, a Goat and a Beetle) meets a Gnat the size of a chicken who introduces her to a Rocking-Horse Fly, a Snap-Dragon Fly and a Bread-and-Butter Fly all while leading her to the woods that swallow up names and no one knows what they are called.

OH MAN the identity metaphors here!! I’m totally geeking out about it.

What do you make of it?

And Just Like That :: May 24, 2018

And just like that, another school year behind us. Today is the last official day of this school year and as of 12pm today, summer vacation began. And it couldn’t have come fast enough.

This was a hard year. The girls had so much to handle and manage….in addition to the difficulty of school in general. 4th, 8th and 10th grades will always be “the school year that started mom’s battle with cancer.” ….Started the battle….. because next school year will also be a school year where ‘mom battles cancer.’ Okay…let’s be real… it’s the school year that we ALL have battled cancer. And my girls battled hard. They were incredibly driven. They were beautifully kind. They were amazingly resilient. And each finished well.

Today, Annie had an End of Year Celebration where the elementary school does fun songs and performances and they give out awards. Annie was one of two students in her class that was awarded the Diligence Award because of her determination to do everything well. And then the character trait award that her teacher gave her was the Endurance Award because of her ability to endure through the hardships of this year, maintaining her focus and attentiveness, her kindness to others and her desire to do her best…always.

Needless to say, I cried. A lot. Like…a lot. For my girl to get those awards…for her to choose excellence in her heart and in her work in the midst of the difficulty of this year, in the midst of her momma having cancer, is incredible. And as I have written in many many posts, ENDURANCE has been my prayer for all of us.

Thank you, Lord, for daily walking with us through this school year. For the endurance of our sweet girls. And I continue to pray for that as the battle continues……..

A much needed restful weekend coming up. I’m exhausted. And that is all.
